Woven Pendant Lights

Check out these great handmade Luna Luna woven pendant lights designed by Stephanie Ng Design. Made from 100% treated Merino wool which wraps around the roof of the light fitting creating some interesting pendant feature lights.

They would make a great look either as an individual or hung as a cluster.

Knitted objects :: Granny lamps

Knitting may not be trendy these days but maybe I can change your mind?

I was searching for some lamps that were made from natural materials and a softer style than the usual when I came across this Granny Lamp by casamania and designer Pudelskern.
The design is inspired by a direct response to the climate challenges of cold winters and reviving the traditions and memories of your Granny knitting around the fireplace while telling stories. I am sure we all have these same memories?

This thick natural wool comes from sheep bred on alpine pastures and each lamp can even be tracked back to the flock where the wool came from.

The wool is then knitted by a collective of home-based workers in the Netherlands and then a natural treatment is applied making the wool flame resistant and resistant to moth and mite infestation.

This is such a nice way to bring back traditional skills in such a modern style... and if you are looking to buy these in Australia they can be sourced through Janie Collins Interiors.

Have fun.

Lighting ideas :: Handmade lamps weaved from pandanas grass

I was looking for lighting ideas for a project when I stumbled across these beautiful handmade lamps weaved from pandanas grass. This range of individual lamps called Yuta Badayala (translation “In a new light”) are made by Koskela and the Yolngu weavers from Elcho Island Arts.

This collaborative project provides Indigenous weavers with an additional stream of income from their work whilst retaining traditional skills, using sustainable materials and introducing new and unique ‘art products’ into the contemporary interiors market.

Here below is a clip about their compelling story. Enjoy.

Have a great Easter break and will return after the holidays.

Bathroom lighting ideas :: Moroccan and Turkish lamps

The holidays are now here and so I have a little extra time to spend on finishing things off around my own home. Tasks for this week include finding a reclaimed vanity unit and some mood lighting ideas for the bathroom.

In keeping with the Christmas spirit and looking for mood lighting for relaxing in the bathroom I am considering hanging a Moroccan or Turkish light. We have quite high ceilings so there should be enough space to hang a lamp and the light, shadows and colour cast should look great on the walls.

After a little searching I have found a few lamps that I quite like...
white wave design, just moroccan, this next, palmyra design & lush lighting
I have also remembered that I have a few lamps from Turkey in storage under the house that I purchased once in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul a few years ago. I will have to search for those and see what condition that are still in. Have fun.
